Creating and sustaining diversity and inclusion has become a necessity especially during the COVID times when social distancing pushes international schools / educational institutions and multinational companies / organizations to work remotely. This phrase 'diversity and inclusion' does not just stop with either recruiting candidates from various cultures or providing cultural training or orientation sessions. It is the need of the hour that we delve a little deeper and see how each of the employee in an organization or students in an educational institution interpret different cultures in relation to their own culture. Here's a small test question that you can try yourself 😊
Can you recall the last time that you had attended a cultural training or had a formal discussion on a culture that is different from yours?
If yes, which of these answers would best fit your thoughts immediately after:
a. “Oh, my! These people must be weird! ”
"There's so much difference between this culture and mine, I would not be able to interpret."
"There are differences I should be aware of, so I do not end up doing something that disappoints these people."
d. "There are differences that I would rather avoid handling - so each time I face it, I would probably report to my manager."
e. “Oh, wow! There are so many similarities between this culture and mine! ”
If your answer is anywhere between options (a) and (d) then such trainings or discussions may have covered a great deal about cultural diversity, leaving you to figure out on your own the inclusion aspect.
An effective Diversity and inclusion strategy involves getting each participant to select option (e) (ie) highlighting more of the similarities between cultures that everyone can appreciate.
The Guiding Light Art Company (The GLAC studio) strives to highlight such similarities between different cultures through its Celebrate Diversity Series Oil on canvas paintings.
The world has become a global village and it is important for us to understand each other's culture; embrace the differences and celebrate similarities, thereby adding new dimensions or perspectives to our thoughts.
Watch how your organization or educational institution could take support from the GLAC studio in building diversity & inclusion within your team via a virtual workshop.

Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I
guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m
still new to the whole thing. Do you have any recommendations for rookie blog writers?
I’d genuinely appreciate it.
Thanks very much for your feedback 🙂
I’m a new blog writer myself, so I’m not sure how helpful my suggestions would be for you.
My web consultant motivates me to write content that could guide the readers in some way and also connect with the products / services that my company provides.
I agree with her and I connect her suggestion to my own ideas. Just write what you are most passionate about and be sure as to who your target readers are, then I think we will get there as bloggers 🙂
