GLAC art classes had found their way inside the GLAC studio during the summer of 2020. With half the world under complete or partial lock-down, there were more people willing and more than happy to spend their time constructively. A friend of mine had asked if I could learn how to paint for her 6-year-old girl, and I said “yes”. After the summer holidays attended few more. Although there were excellent art schools around the city, children were not introduced to oil painting. In addition, they had made art by sitting on a regular table and chair. I could see their curiosity when I introduced them to oil painting on a canvas placed on an easel. This was enough to attract children to the GLAC studio, but will they sit still for hours together to paint?
Oil paintings usually take a long time, which is why most artists will work long hours before they reach their goal. Through art education, I would have the opportunity not only to learn to paint, but also to help my students practice patience and perseverance.
Before planning a curriculum for art education, there were some important aspects that GLAC Studio had to consider:
• The children of this generation have many more options to spend their time on, which also challenges their attention span on a particular task
• Because of their access to the Internet, children also have access to more information. They need help connecting different information and building their knowledge
The solution was simple. To increase the attention span and help your child build knowledge about oil painting, GLAC Studio does the following:
• Allows the child to choose their subject. This will help your child set their own goal
• Train the child in understanding oil painting as a creative business opportunity by introducing him/her to the end-to-end process involved. This further helps the child connect the dots and see for themselves how the actions will lead to the goal and what achieving the goal can become
Each student thereby creates his or her own learning path, and it is always a joy for GLAC Studio to support such a wonderful mission. Since the beginning of GLAC art classes we see an interesting development, which gets caught up in the section GLAC Art Students. When students reach their goals, their art travels will be set up in the section GLAC Art Students. Students can also choose to put their artwork up for sale. Every time you buy one of GLAC Kunst Student's work, you support the child's learning process in understanding how to handle sales.
